I thoroughly enjoyed myself and can't wait to head back. The charcuterie, calamari and seafood paella were phenomenal. Make sure you order the paella when you arrive as it takes about 45 minutes to prepare. There was a large group of us, so we ended up sitting outside. Great service and affordable prices. Love me some tapas!
Three of us went here when we were visiting Charleston for the weekend - we got almost every vegetarian option and every single one was a hit. The red sangria is sooooooo good (and strong). I had never had paella before in my life since I have only ever seen it prepared with seafood in it, so this was finally my chance - it did not disappoint!! Aside from that, my fav was probably the Champignons and the Patatas Bravas. I only took 2 photos because we ate everything so fast before I remembered. It was exceptional. Our waiter Joe was kind, had a great energy about him, and made the experience even more amazing.
My first time here tonight and man oh man! The drinks were good I had the white Sangria and pan seared Brussel sprouts with seafood Paella it was so good. And Oscar Rivers band was excellent jazz to listen to. The atmosphere was great. Love the ambiance. And the service was great I I will be back.
I loved this place. We arrived from out of town on a Thursday night and I was delighted to have finally found a place where we could get a table inside (it was a chilly night) for five people at a reasonable hour. They had lots of options for times, which was a relief and the place was not terribly busy at 6:45. We hit the end of happy hour, so we were able to get $3 off of our sangria drinks. I normally am not a fan of sangria, but they offered a special one with interesting spices and flavors, which my husband and I loved. I would have had two if I were not so busy eating! We ordered the dates and the croquettes stuffed with spinach and warm cheese, which were my two favorite tapas and the mushrooms, which were fine, although nothing special. The croquettes and dates were stupendous. Our main course was the chicken and chorizo Paella and it was so delicious!! We added some veggies for a little bit variety and got a medium for five of us. There was enough chicken to each have a smallish piece and lot of rice and veggies and chorizo. I would have liked some more chicken. Flavors blended perfectly, and frankly, I found the food here to be much better than in Southern Spain, where I visited last Fall. I highly recommend Barsa and would love to return if I visit Charleston again. Was worried from the previous review about the ambiance, but it was cozy. I didn't mind it being a bit dark- added to the atmosphere. Attentive server. Don't fight for reservations at the super popular places-this is better!
If you're looking for a night of delicious food and drinks this is 100% the place to go. Let's start with the very good. The food. We had a group of six and we basically ordered almost everything on the menu. From the dates, calamari, ribs, paella... all of it was amazing. I highly recommend going with a group so you have the opportunity to try and share as much as you can. There was nothing we ordered that disappointed (and the dates were probably at the top of my favorites for the evening) The just good... the service. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. We did feel like it took a bit of effort to get the attention of our server when we needed her, but again... it wasn't bad... it just wasn't amazing. The not so good... overall the place feels kinda dumpy and dirty. There were storage crates tucked into a corner in plain sight... the bathroom felt a bit gross and had a couch in it which felt pretty awkward for a small bathroom. I can't really see anyone needing to sit on it, and in a small bathroom like that it'd probably be pretty unsanitary to sit on. Overall, I'd definitely go back again... and maybe the messiness was just a temporary thing on a bad night. That was the only thing keeping it from a full 5 stars for me
Our book club had to pivot here last minute and are so glad we did! The staff were super friendly and accommodating. Parking is easy next door in a paid lot or free under the overpass. The inside is slightly moody/dark but in a cozy way. Lots of seating types and combinations to choose from. Everything we had was excellent - croquettes, calamari and potatoes were table favorites. The white sangria was crisp and tart. The house red rotates and was a great deal!
A friend picked this spot, and when we first pulled up I was a little apprehensive. Do not be fooled - this is one the most amazing places I have ever been. The staff was incredibly personable and friendly. Our waitress was an absolute doll. We sat outside on the patio and they even had a little device to keep flies away from our food! We started with drinks. They have a very unique cocktail menu. We tried the crispy Brussels, curry lamb empanadas, a charcuterie board, and a small seafood paella. The portions were very generous, and I couldn't pick a favorite if I tried. Everything we tried was just a perfect bite. My only regret is that we were visiting from out of town, and it will be a while before I get to come back. If I was a local - this would be my new favorite spot.
I lived in Spain for two years. That time was filled with endless glasses of wine, countless slices of manchego, and enough jamon to last a lifetime. I came to Barsa looking for a taste of home. I found what I was looking for. I sipped on a lovely sangria while I chatted with friends and dined on plate after plate after plate. The charcuterie offered a great sample of meats and cheeses (get the goat cheese!). The patatas bravas had a delicious aioli that constantly tempts you to have just one more potato. The calamari offered a delightful fried-lemony-seafood trifecta, and the champignons with goat cheese on toast . . . umami for days. The hidden gem of the bunch was the pan con tomate with chorizo; it was fresh and savory and had a delicious bang of protein. The only plate I would pass on would be the stuffed peppers, but I would order everything else again. The staff is friendly and more than willing to run drink after drink, order after order out to the table. Meanwhile, the vibes are welcoming: the dark wood interior invites you to stay a while. And you should! Long, late meals are part of the Spanish dining experience, and they give you more than one excuse to keep ordering more tapas. They certainly were for me, and I know I'll be back for more.
